🚶‍♀️🌍 World Pedestrian Day 2026 | Pedestrian Safety Audit 🌍🚶‍♂️

As part of NATPAC’s Golden Jubilee celebrations and in observance of World Pedestrian Day, NATPAC conducted a Pedestrian Safety Audit along the Kesavadasapuram–Pattom corridor located in Trivandrum and Medical college - Kunnamangalam arm of Medical College Junction in Kozhikode on 17 August 2026 , with the objective of assessing pedestrian safety, accessibility and walking conditions along this important urban corridor.

The audit focused on identifying pedestrian safety concerns, gaps in pedestrian infrastructure, accessibility challenges, and other factors affecting the safe and comfortable movement of pedestrians.

🚸The initiative highlights NATPAC’s continued commitment towards promoting safe, inclusive, accessible and sustainable mobility and creating urban streets that prioritise pedestrians and other vulnerable road users.

📋 A detailed report of the Pedestrian Safety Audit, including the observations, identified issues, and recommendations for improving pedestrian safety along the corridor, will be submitted to the respected authorities for further actions on pedestrian safety improvement interventions.

The first 5-Day Hands-on GIS Short-Term Training Programme organised by KSCSTE-NATPAC was successfully conducted from 27-31 July 2026 at the KSCSTE-NATPAC Regional Office, JLN International Stadium, Kaloor, Ernakulam.

The programme saw enthusiastic participation from officials of the Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) and students from various institutions. Over five days, participants gained practical experience in GIS through hands-on sessions covering spatial data management, mapping, geoprocessing, and spatial analysis.

We sincerely thank everyone who participated and contributed to the success of the first training program in this series. The encouraging response inspires us to continue this initiative, and we look forward to welcoming many more participants to the upcoming GIS Short-Term Training Programmes.

An interactive session was held with Dr. Sooraj P., Professor, Government College of Engineering, Kannur, on 28 July 2026.

During the session, Dr. Sooraj interacted with the scientists of KSCSTE-NATPAC, sharing his insights and engaging in discussions on research, innovation, and collaborative opportunities in the field of transportation engineering. The interaction provided a valuable platform for knowledge exchange and exploring potential areas of academic and research collaboration.

NATPAC is participating in INNOVISTA 2026, organised by Marian Engineering College, Thiruvananthapuram, on 24–25 July 2026.

As part of the INNOVISTA 2026 Industry Expo, NATPAC has set up an exhibition stall showcasing its research capabilities, specialised equipment and initiatives in transportation engineering and road safety. The exhibit features road safety equipment, traffic signs and safety devices, along with tools and technologies used for traffic engineering, field investigations and transportation research.

The stall provides an opportunity for students, faculty and visitors to interact with NATPAC professionals and gain practical insights into how engineering, research and technology contribute towards safer and more efficient transportation systems.

KSCSTE-NATPAC had a notable presence at the 12th International Conference on Transportation Systems Engineering and Management (CTSEM 2026), hosted by Mahindra University, Hyderabad. Scientists from the institute actively participated in the conference through research paper and poster presentations, contributing to discussions on emerging trends and challenges in transportation engineering. 

Scientists from NATPAC presented their research across a wide range of topics, including travel behaviour, public transport planning, accessibility, road safety, pavement engineering, low-volume roads, and inland water transport. The institute was represented by Dr. Shaheem S., Wilson K.C., Dr. Sabitha N. M., Dr. Jegan Bharath Kumar, Dr. Vasudevan N., Dr. Anila Cyril, Ashik K. Azad, and Ms. Ardra S. Krishna, reflecting the breadth and diversity of research being carried out at NATPAC.    

In addition to presenting their research, Dr. Shaheem S., Dr. Jegan Bharath Kumar, Dr. Vasudevan N., and Dr. Anila Cyril served as Technical Session Chairs. Dr. Vasudevan N. also moderated the panel discussion on "Smart and Sustainable Mobility Systems for Smart Cities," contributing to insightful discussions and knowledge exchange among researchers and practitioners.  

The conference provided an excellent platform for sharing research findings, engaging with experts from academia, industry, and government, and fostering collaborations in the field of transportation engineering.

KSCSTE-NATPAC congratulates all the participating scientists for their valuable contributions and for representing the institute with distinction at CTSEM 2026.

NATPAC Marks the Beginning of Its Golden Jubilee Journey

KSCSTE–NATPAC officially launched its Golden Jubilee celebrations with a Curtain Raiser ceremony, marking 50 years of excellence in transportation planning and research.

The event was inaugurated by Hon'ble Minister for Public Works, Shri P. K. Basheer, who appreciated NATPAC's contributions to Kerala's transport infrastructure and emphasized stronger collaboration between research institutions and government agencies for sustainable infrastructure development.

Prof. (Dr.) Ashalatha R., Director, KSCSTE–NATPAC, welcomed the gathering and highlighted the institute's journey of executing over 100 major projects across 15 states. The function was presided over by Dr. P. Harinarayanan, Member Secretary, KSCSTE, who outlined NATPAC's research vision aligned with Viksit Bharat 2047.

The event also marked the launch of the Golden Jubilee Logo, Golden Jubilee Activity Calendar, and TRANSFORM 2026 Logo. Felicitations were offered by Shri Bidur Kant Jha, Director, New Technology for Highway Development, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), Government of India, and Shri K. R. Cleetus, Councillor, Thiruvananthapuram Corporation.

The celebrations continued with the panel discussion, "KERALA ON THE MOVE: Shaping Future Mobility for 2047," moderated by Shri T. Elangovan, Former Director, NATPAC. The panel featured Shri Bidur Kant Jha, Dr. M. P. Ramnavas (Kochi Metro Rail Limited), Dr. Kuncheria P. Isaac (Founder Vice-Chancellor, APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University), and Prof. (Dr.) Tom V. Mathew (IIT Bombay & Chairman, NATPAC Research Council), who discussed integrated, sustainable, and technology-driven mobility for Kerala.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. S. Shaheem, Senior Principal Scientist, KSCSTE–NATPAC, and was attended by scientists, former colleagues, senior government officials, and distinguished guests.

As NATPAC celebrates its Golden Jubilee, it reaffirms its commitment to research, innovation, and sustainable mobility.
